What is Information Literacy?

Information is available in many forms:

  • books and magazines (printed and electronic)

  • videos and sound recordings

  • online library catalogs

  • indexes and electronic databases

  • web pages

Many people believe they can find all the information they need on the Internet.  To be "information literate" you need to know why, when, and how to use all of the tools mentioned above.

Before you begin this tutorial, let's clear up some common Internet misconceptions.
