About Government Documents

Since 1973, Elihu Burritt Library has served as a selective depository for publications from the United States Government. These include materials from virtually every branch and agency of the federal government, such as: laws and legislation, congressional hearings, Supreme Court decisions, Geological Survey Maps, and a wide range of statistical sources including the U.S. Census. The Library's current collection contains approximately 100,000 paper items, 50,000 microfiche, 22,000 maps and 200 CD-ROMs.

The government documents department is located on the 3rd floor of the library. There is also a large collection of mainly older materials on library stack 1. For assistance using government documents, contact
Rick Churchill, government documents librarian (832-2066).

Government documents may now also be accessed through the Internet. While the "traditional" (i.e., paper and microfiche) formats will not cease, increasingly government information sources are migrating to the World Wide Web.
