Students and faculty have two new allies to assist research at the
Burritt Library. One facility, called EbscoHost
Academic Full-Text Elite, offers flexible searching, some full text
(entire articles online), as well as additional appointments to
expedite research at the computer. Its business oriented counterpart,
called EbscoHost Business Source Elite, provides the same easy
interface and full text retrieval for business researchers.
•Two ways to search:
Both databases allow KEYWORD searching (entering phrases or simply
entering words separated by operators such as AND, OR). The databases also
offer NATURAL LANGUAGE SEARCHING. By shifting to the NAT LANG mode the
researcher gains the advantage of having not only the exact words
of the search retrieved, but also permutations of the words. Librarians
at the Burritt Library have found this enhances retrieval; and performing
the search in both modes has proven to be even more helpful!
Specifying limits:
Another advantage of the Ebsco databases is the ability to limit the
retrieval of the search to: 1) journals in the CCSU
Library Collection, 2) journals that are peer-reviewed, 3)
journals that are available full text. Students needing articles
at the "last minute" have found this last option very useful.
•Full Text Availability
If the researcher checks the "full text" box, the retrieved articles
are available online.
•"Web Links"
For certain topics, the databases will connect the user to related
Internet pages.
