Faculty Recognition Program
by Lynn Johnson-Corcoran

The Library held its second annual Faculty Recognition Reception on December 10, 2003 for those faculty members who were promoted or received tenure this year.  The program is based upon one that was started at the University of Illinois a few years ago.

When the list of promotion and tenure awards was announced in the spring, the Library contacted the faculty members and invited them to select a title to be bookplated in honor of their achievement.  The book might have been one that influenced their career choice, one that has special personal meaning to them, one that they produced themselves, or just a favorite book

In the fall semester, the selected books were put on display along with a brief commentary from the faculty member who selected it on why it was chosen. In conjunction with the display, a reception was held in the Special Collections Reading Room for the honorees. This provided the campus community with the opportunity to view the display as well as chat with the faculty about the various books that influenced them.

The program has been very well received by the faculty.  Many are delighted to have a book added to the collection in their name and they enjoy sharing stories about books that are special to them.

The following is the list of books chosen this year:

Library Wins Grants  to Support Art Digital Collections

Earlier this year the CCSU and ECSU libraries and art departments collaborated on successful applications to Sun Microsystems and the CSU IT Pilot project grant. The Sun grant was awarded earlier this year for two Sun servers (valued at approximately $40,000). The CSU IT Pilot Project grant of $148,000 will be used to purchase digital collections management software from Luna Insight as well as high-quality art images from Saskia to accompany art history textbooks. In addition, the two campuses will subscribe to the Amico Art and Design database, a collection of over 150,000 images. The project will be implemented over the summer of 2004.

Check the library website or Pipeline for project updates and future training opportunities!
