Home > About > Library News What's New @ The Elihu Burritt Library Cheryl Cianci: The Calligraphy of Branches on Display through May This exhibit is the culmination of an Independent Study taken under Ron Todd, Professor of Art at CCSU. What started out as an effort to combine the mediums of photography and watercolor painting evolved into the study of examining shapes and forms of branches in nature. Cheryl explored how these visual writings of Mother Nature resembled those found in the art of calligraphy. Her main focus was to bring attention to the smaller parts of the whole. What appear to be black & white images, upon close examination reveal hints of organic colors found in nature. Minimalistic Zen like photographic images might best describe Cheryl’s final artwork. Library Announces Research Award Winners The library awarded its 2nd annual prizes for excellence in undergraduate research papers/projects and demonstration of skills and creativity in the application of library services, resources and collections. Two monetary awards were given to Jean Messersmith (Senior, History major), who wrote the paper "The Good American Citizen: The Americanization During the World War I Era", and Amanda Johnson (Senior, Elementary Education/English), for her honors thesis "Reading Instruction and Political Agendas".
