Bill Bahlman Papers

Bill Bahlman was an activist with the Gay Activists Alliance (GAA) in the early 1970's. The Lavender Hill Mob grew out of other groups and activities within the gay community in the Fall of 1986. The philosophy of the "Mob" was liberationist. There was no official membership but a core group of founders and instigators who, as Bahlman put it, "know who we are Meetings were not closed but not announced. "We're trying to nudge the community toward a consciousness of gay liberation", quotes Marty Robinson, a Mob participant, "rather than the compromise of gay rights. Bill Bahlman

Bahlman was also a founding member of A.C.T.U.P. (AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power). The group was formed in March, 1987 to hold the government publicly accountable for its participation in the genocide of AIDS patients. The group created an informed public opinion.
