Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is the document delivery service that supplies most library materials not owned by Elihu Burritt Library to CCSU library users. Reciprocally, this service also supplies books and photocopies to other libraries for the use by their patrons.

Eligibility for Services

Only CCSU faculty, staff, and students are eligible for Interlibrary loan services at the Elihu Burritt Library. Community borrowers with guest borrower cards must utilize their town libraries to obtain Interlibrary Loan services.

How to Submit Requests

WARNING! Before submitting an Interlibrary Loan Request please be sure to check the CCSU collection via the CONSULS catalog. We will not process any request for books or journal articles that are already part of our collection! Requests for books located at ECSU, SCSU, or WCSU may be placed directly from the CONSULS catalog.

All Interlibrary Loan requests will be submitted through the CCSU ILLiad system. First time users will need to create an account in ILLiad before requesting materials.

For Faculty: Copyright & Fair Use

In an effort to comply with copyright laws, Burritt Library will order up to five articles from any journal title published within the past five years from other libraries. The sixth and any subsequent articles ordered will be purchased from a copyright cleared document delivery service. Burritt Library will pay no more than $500 in copyright fees per faculty member during a given calendar year. Articles requested in excess of this will be returned to the patron.

Most Interlibrary Loan requests take approximately two weeks to fill. We will notify you electronically when the material arrives. Interlibrary Loan books must be picked up at the Interlibrary Loan office (On Saturday and Sunday please inquire at the Circulation Desk for assistance). Journal articles may be delivered electronically if you prefer.
