Tonight’s therapy dog visit at the Elihu Burritt Library has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Sign up to be among the participants who earn a $10 Blue Chip gift card by helping the Elihu Burritt Library test its online resources for “user-friendliness”. The first 10 participants who complete a test of our search engine will receive $10 BlueChip gift cards. Testing will take place at the Elihu Burritt Library the week of December 9th through 13th. The online signup form allows you to choose the most convenient time for you to spend the 15-20 minutes that this test will take. Slots occur every hour on the half hour, starting at 9:30 AM & ending at 3:30 pm, each day.

During the “test”, you’ll be asked to do some basic searching & to provide feedback on the process as you go. We’ll take notes on what you’ve said and use them to try and make our online services better for students.

We’re using EventBrite’s “ticket” option to reserve your preferred time for usability testing (& to ensure that we’ve got the correct demographic information about you beforehand, which will reduce the amount of time it takes to go through the test).

Based on popular demand, the library will be open an extra hour on certain days prior to and during final exams. From Monday, Dec. 2, to Wednesday, Dec. 4, the library will be open 8am-11:45pm. From Monday, Dec. 9, to Wednesday, Dec. 11, the library will also be open 8am-11:45pm. On Sunday, Dec. 8, the library will be open 3pm-10:45pm.

Otherwise, the library will be open regular hours until Tuesday, Dec. 17. These hours are Monday through Thursday, 8am-10:45pm; Friday, 8am-4:45pm; Saturday, 9am-3:45pm; and Sunday, 2pm-9:45pm.

Do the last few weeks of classes stress you out?  Papers, exams, grades…  Do you miss your dog at home? Well come to the library and and hang out with Therapy Dogs.  We will be visited by Gracie, Jesse, and Angus next week and they would love to help you take a break from all of the work.

The dogs will be visiting the 2nd floor of the library as follows:

Tuesday, December 3rd: Meet Gracie from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, December 4th:  Meet Jessie from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Monday, December 9th:  Meet Angus from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Therapy dogs have been shown to increase serotonin levels and help reduce stress in college students!  See this article from the Journal of American College Health for more info.

During the week of Thanksgiving, we are OPEN Monday, Nov. 25, and Tuesday, Nov. 26, 8am-10:45pm. On Wednesday, Nov. 27, we are open until 4:45pm. We are CLOSED Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving)-Sunday, Dec. 1. We re-open, Monday, Dec. 2, 8am-11:45pm.

Books containing Yeo-Baek, a display of artist’s books will be on display on the fourth floor of the library until November 25th.  Yeo-Baek is the empty space left behind, and according to the artist is “the central aesthetic of Korean painting”.

The artist, Sun Young Kang, has presented her work internationally and nationally.  Working out of Philadelphia, she has created small pieces as well as room sized installations.

Burritt Library Undergraduate Research Awards 

This award will recognize excellence in undergraduate research papers/projects as well as skill and creativity in the application of library services, resources and collections. Two prizes of $350 will be awarded during the spring 2014 semester at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD). One prize will be award to a senior thesis and the other will be awarded to a paper/project from any class/year (if applicable).
