Msgr Lucjan (Lucian) Bojnowski,  pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in New Britain, Conn. died on July 28th, 1960.  In 1961 an evidence emerged that  the bulk of assets in his estate belonged to the fund he had established ca. 1917 to build St. Joseph's Polish Roman Catholic Hospital in New Britain. The Probate Court separated these funds and established a board of trustees from local Polish American leaders.  In 1960s the funds were insufficient for the hospital.  Under Connecticut law the Dominican Sisters of Chicago - whom Msgr. Bojnowski designated to operate the hospital - could not undertake building  it.  In 1966  the State of Connecticut initiated a lawsuit to transfer the money to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford or New Britain General Hospital.  In 1970 the court sided with Polish American community when it allowed the money to be used to enlarge the existing St. Lucien Convalescent Home.
