Graduate Workshop Postponed

 Due to the possible bad weather on Monday, October 29,  the graduate thesis and special projects workshop has been postponed to November 5 in the Constitution Room at  7:15 pm. (Refreshments will be served at 7:00 pm).

Undergraduate Research Awards – Win $350!

Elihu Burritt Library is pleased to announce the 2013 Undergraduate Library Research award. This award will recognize excellence in undergraduate research papers/projects as well as skills and creativity in the application of library services, resources and collections. Two prizes of $350 will be awarded during the spring 2013 semester at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD). One prize will be award to a senior thesis and the other will be awarded to a paper/project from any class/year (if applicable).

 **PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LIBRARY RESEARCH AWARD IS A SEPARATE PRIZE FROM THE OTHERS PRESENTED AT URCAD**. 

 Eligibility:

 To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled during the spring 2013 semester as a Central Connecticut State University undergraduate at any class level or discipline/major.
  • Have completed their research paper or project for a credit course during the spring, summer, or fall semesters in 2012.
  • Agree that the paper or project and application materials will become property of Elihu Burritt Library and may be publicly displayed in the library and/or library website.

GraduateThesis and Special Projects Workshop

Paulette Lemma, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, The Graduate Student Association (GSA) and Susan Slaga, MLIS, Reference Librarian of Elihu Burritt Library present the Thesis and Special Projects Workshop:

The event will begin at 7:15 pm in the Student Center Bellin Gallery on Monday October 29th.

The workshop will cover:

-Selecting a topic
-Steps in the thesis process
-Steps in the Capstone process
-Oral presentation or defense
-Library Research (including a brief overview of style requirements)

Refreshments will be served at 7:00pm.

Library Becomes “Literary Landmark”

Literary Landmark plaque The public is invited to attend a Literary Landmark dedication of the Elihu Burritt Library on Thursday, October 11th at 3pm in front of the library. This designation honors the library’s namesake, Elihu Burritt (1810-1879), New Britain’s “Learned Blacksmith”.  Literary Landmarks is a program is sponsored by the organization United for Libraries (formerly ALTAFF), an affiliate of the American Library Association.
