LSC150: Library Research in the Digital Age

Need a 1-credit (online) course that will give you research super-powers? LIbrary Research in the Digital Age will teach you:

  • how to search the library’s databases & CentralSearch for articles, books, and more
  • what is considered “scholarly” (and why it’s important to your professors)
  • how to determine which information sources should be trusted and why (a crucial skill for 21st-century citizens)
  • the ins and outs of proper citation (APA, MLA, all the formats that make your professors, publishers & graduate programs happy)
  • copyright, open access, and other hot topics in today’s information ecosystem

Learn tech skills while working on topics of interest to you in the humanities (e.g., History, English, Writing, Communications) in this project-based course.

Want to learn how to …

• Visualize data using graphs, maps, and word clouds?

Past students’ research projects have included:
• Oral histories of women in the military
• Depictions of mental illness in film

No prior technical experience is required.

Citation Review (MLA/APA) – Wed., November 17, 4pm

We’ll provide a refresher and answer questions on both MLA and APA citation formats. The first half of the session (4:00-4:15) will cover MLA and the second half (4:15-4:30) will cover APA. Join online

This is the final Research on the Run Library Workshop for the Fall semester. Workshops are 30 minutes long on topics you need to succeed! Come in-person or join us online via Webex! Workshops will take place in EB 205 at 4 p.m. or online via the links listed in the workshop description.
