Bee-ware!

For the safety of all library visitors, we ask that you avoid STACKS 7 & 8 (bound periodicals) while we deal with the bees who have taken up residence in the library. We hope to have the problem resolved within the next week. If you need bound periodicals, please consult with our Reference staff at the 3rd and 4th floor Information Desks.

The New Face of Interlibrary Loan!

Today, September 2, 2008, the process of requesting materials through the  Interlibrary Loan office has changed.

How will this affect you?  The first time you request a book not in the CSU system or an article from any other library, you will be prompted to create an account in ILLiad, our new management software.

This account will allow you to:
•       Keep track of all of your data, so you will not have to rekey this information every time you place a request.
•       Quickly change your email if needed
•       View your electronic documents
•       Track the status of your requests
•       Request renewals.

When placing any subsequent requests the only thing you will need to do is log into your account.
We hope you enjoy this new innovation to help you manage your research requests.

Proquest Research Databases – Trial access!

Greetings! Those of you in and around Library Land already know that we regularly arrange for trial access to new research databases. Doing this offers you, our library patrons, a chance to check out the content and “kick the tires” as it were… I’m excited to announce that we’re kicking off the academic year in high style with two great offerings from Proquest: Dissertations & Theses (Full-text Dissertations!!!) and Accounting & Tax Standards. Trial access will be available through September 25th. Please tell us what you think!

Video Being Filmed at Burritt Library on 8/25

Hello Everyone!

I’m very excited to announce that CCSU Media Center will be filming a video to help students find their way around the Burritt Library. ( It will have a ghost/horror type theme). The filming will take place on Monday, August 25 from 12:00 pm – 4:45 pm.  Please be advised that some areas in the library may be closed off for short periods of time. Some patron computers may not be available, and lights may be turned off from time to time.  Also if you happen to be using the library that day and need to be near the filming, please keep the noise down. I’m sorry– I don’t mean to be one of those librarians that says “ssshhh”, but in this case it’s needed.  If you have any questions, please contact me, Susan Slaga at 832-2095 or slagas@ccsu.edu.  Thank you in advance.

Library Hours for August

If you’re like me, then you’re in utter disbelief that August is already upon us! The hubbub of summer sessions has subsided as we simultaneously gear up for the fall! This current state of being is reflected in our reduced hours of operation during the month of August. We’ll be open to the public weekdays from 8am – 5pm.  Come visit us, and enjoy the rest of summer!

Exhibit information or rather misinformation

If yesterday was April’s Fool I would pretend it was a joke, since it was a day later I want to correct a mistake about the LGBTQ exhibit news announcement on our web site. It is not an organization with a 150 years old tradition but it celebrates just 15 years.  If my mistake would be a true fact Connecticut would be a pioneer in the movement.

Best to all,

Renata

Welcome Friends!

Well, I’m happy to report that after nearly a year’s worth of discussion and soul searching (what else is new in academe?) we’re pleased to introduce the Burritt Library blog! The blog addresses two needs that several of us in the building have been grappling with– 1) to find a more informal way of connecting with you, our wonderful user community, so that we may regale you with all the fabulous things going on, both within our sadly nondescript walls and beyond, and accordingly 2) to provide a mechanism for you to connect with us!  I’m delighted that a number of my colleagues in the various departments of the library were interested in contributing to our blogging venture when Edward and I first put out the call for bloggahs. Though we may all work in the library, we are by no means a monolithic entity; many of us have vastly differing job responsibilities as well as points of view– as you will soon find out! Cheers!
