A Look Back

World War I had brought success to the United States. Manufacturing had reached an all-time high to match the demand put on the industry due to the war. This boom allowed for new inventions and innovations in order to meet the demand. Also, more employment opportunities opened for women and African-Americans.

Manufacturing slowed as World War I ended. Soldiers began to return home facing mass unemployment. This rising unemployment after a time of industry and economic prosperity, laid the foundation for the Great Depression.  Cities such as Hartford and Waterbury felt this and still struggle with this today. One can still see World War I in Hartford as the city is prideful of its participation in World War I. From 2014- 2018, the world celebrates the hundredth-year anniversary of World War I. Now more than ever it is important to remember what those who valiantly served out country but also served Connecticut specifically Hartford.
