Concluding Thoughts

I find that all these memorials are only a piece of a bigger component. What does it really mean to commemorate and remember citizens who sacrificed their entire lives for a nation still standing today thanks to them. With my exhibition, I hope to inspire future exhibits and further research into remembering World War I because it is imperative to keep in mind how and why this nation we are all a part of still thrives today. Memorials such as these make an imprint not only from where it stands but to the people who witness its spirit, it may have different meanings and make a lasting impact. Recognizing the historical significance to war memorials provide an important learning experience. History has made our present and its legacy will continue to be a part of us. This is not just about art, it is rather a symbolical experience and embodiment of history. These monuments represent pieces of public history displayed for the commemorating of a time in which America suffered greatly but triumphed because of the more than four million veterans. The legacy of our history should be nourished and remembered. The historical context brings these monuments to life and it is a reminder of how tremendous of an impact history can have on us. My digital exhibit was very much inspired by the Centennial of the First World War this year and I hope this Memorial Day is as filled with many visits to memorial sites as possible. Thank you.
