Patrons are not giving us the correct article information

In those days, the patron would find the information and have to manually enter the data into the request form. So, when we didn’t find the correct information we would assume that the patron did it. Things have changed.

ILLiad should be pulling information in from all of the databases by using something called Open URL. When it was configured we tested the most used databases, but of course did not test them all.

How do you know when the database isn’t giving us the proper information? When the information is passed through SFX,our Link Resolver, the name of the database and SFX will appear under the citation information.  illiad-citation2

When there is data in that field, this tells you that the patron had nothing to do with how the information is formatted in ILLiad.  In the case above, everything formatted correctly.   But, if you see a request come through that does not have all the information in the correct place, Route it to Borrowing REVIEW Processing where I can take a look at it.

BScan ILL and updating Illiad, Odyssey

OOOPS….I was incorrect as Chris pointed out to me today.

We do still need to set the Odyssey requests back to “In Stacks Searching.” Otherwise they will not appear in Odyssey Helper and therefore will not transmit.

Deleting ILLiad Notes

TIP: I found a way to delete the most recent note in an ILLiad reequest. When you are looking at the request, right [CLICK] in the notes field. A box will appear allowing you to select “delete note”.

**When you double click to add a note, ILLiad will have saved your most recent note. SO: if you want to modify what is there, copy it first just in case you have added other notes recently.

Non-circulating items

Since ILLiad does not pull notes into its system from the catalog when we do a Z39.50 search, we can no longer see the notes in Consuls that items do not circulate. Here is the list of four:

1) Charley Harper – book
2) Katyn – DVD
3) I was born, but… – DVD
4) Il gattopardo, Luchino Visconti – DVD

BScan ILL and ILLiad Updating

Since we are now updating out in the front office, I have finally managed to turn the updating feature off in BScan. I hope this will help eliminate the ubiquitous “Stop Sign.”

Library MCW and Odyssey

MCW is having a problem with receiving Odyssey documents. I have posted a note to this effect on the computer by the scanner.

UA’s: If you see an article request from MCW, be sure to code it for Ariel, not Odyssey. Unfortunately, I have attempted to un-click this in Address Management in ILLiad, but every time a new request is downloaded, it will overwrite my edits.

Students: If you notice that the UA’s have missed this, just automatically send documents to MCW via Ariel.

BScanILL issues

Reminder:

To open BScan ILL software, the scanner must be ON. Otherwise it will not open properly or at all.

Vermont Public Libraries

I have posted updated instructions on the wiki on how to code any requests we get from Vermont Public Libraries. Look under New Libraries and then click the link for NON OCLC libraries.

ILLiad 8 preview

Here is a link that gives a very complete update on ILLiad 8. Alas the screen shots are really small, but I will see if I can capture them and make them larger.

News from the ILLiad Conference

This morning we saw the preview of ILLiad version 8! It looks a lot like the new MS Office with Ribbons and Tabs. It is easily customizable, so that we can all have our Client look different if we choose.

And the best part….when printing: No MORE MAIL MERGE!!
