Elihu Burritt Library faculty help future young engineers!

Three of our librarians recently participated in the Young Engineers Summer STEM Workforce and Development Program run by CCSU ITBD in which students from middle and high school were taught aspects of product invention and how to use CAD Imaging and 3D printing/modeling. Martha Kruy, our instructional/reference librarian, taught students how to conduct research about their ideas and about the intricacies of intellectual property rights. Students learned about the patent process using academic databases and Google Patents. Sharon Clapp, digital resources librarian, taught students how to write code and program Raspberry Pis mini-computers. Nicole Rioux, reference librarian, was helping with the research part of this very worthwhile event.

This type of outreach work is fundamental to the library’s mission of engaging all communities, those on and off campus regardless of age. Library faculty have a lot to offer. Thank you Martha, Sharon and Nicole.

On Wednesday, August 9th the graduation ceremony was held in the Elihu Burritt Library, students were joined by the program organizers, teachers, librarians and family members.

Curriculum Lab has moved…

During the week of July 18th, the Stanley A. Lotko Curriculum Lab was moved from its previous location to the 4th floor of the Burritt Library. Currently the Curriculum Lab sits in the 4th floor Quiet Study Area but before the start of the school year will be enclosed by walls to ensure that the Quiet Study Area on the 4th floor can be maintained throughout the school year. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we moved the collection!
