During the Winter Session (Dec. 18, 2014 – Jan. 11, 2015), the library will be open Monday through Friday, 8am-4:45pm. We will be CLOSED Thursday, Dec. 25, and Thursday, Jan. 1, in observance of Christmas and New Years, respectively.
On Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 31, please call 860-832-3404 in case of early dismissal.

Please check out the World AIDS Day Exhibit on the 2nd floor featuring items from our GLBTQ Archives and General Collection. Held annually on December 1, World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to join in the fight against HIV/AIDS by showing their support for people living with HIV/AIDS and commemorating those who have passed away. Many people show support on World AIDS Day by wearing a red ribbon, the international symbol of HIV awareness and support.

Per Governor Malloy’s directive closing, the library will be OPEN on Wednesday, November 26th, from 8am to 12:30pm.

Ebenezer D. Bassett is the first African American who graduated from the New Britain Normal School in 1853. Mr. Bassett was an educator, an influential activist in the anti-slavery movement, and the first U.S. African American diplomat as the Minister Resident to Haiti.
The exhibit consists of archival materials from the University Archives and a display from the Derby Historical Society.
The exhibit is on view on the 2nd floor of the Burritt Library.
