Celebrate the 1st Floor Grand Opening on 8/24

You are most cordially invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated first level. The carpet has been laid, the circulation desk has been installed, the furniture is in place– and we think it looks just stunning! The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 24 following the Opening Meeting of the Academic Year and the groundbreaking of the new academic building. We estimate that the library ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at approximately 11:30am.  Light refreshments will be served. Hope to see you there!

Library Main Entrance Concrete Work

The main entrance of the Library (facing the Student Center) will be closed beginning tomorrow (Wednesday, August 10th) for approximately two weeks for concrete work.  During this time, please use the rear entrance of the Library (facing the parking lot). We thank you for your continued patience during our renovation!

Microfilm/Fiche Collection Has Moved!

Our collection of microfilm and microfiche, including the New York Times, Hartford Courant, ERIC microfiche collection, and lots of other stuff, has been relocated to Stack One. Until our HVAC project is complete, however, please ask a staff  member at the circulation desk to retrieve the film you need.  Two microform readers and printers are located on the 4th floor. The digital microform reader will remain on Stack One.  Please contact the Circulation Dept. (860-832-3404) for an appointment to use this particular machine.

No one likes microfilm (even librarians!), but there are still some materials not available on the web or in print. For our library patrons who operate a microfilm reader with the virtuosity and confidence of a concert pianist, be forewarned– you will be branded a librarian and your expert guidance will be sought by fellow microfilm users! Trust us!

“Human Solidarity, Polish Solidarność”

“Human Solidarity, Polish Solidarność” an exhibit sponsored by the Polish Studies Program will be on display in the Elihu Burritt Library, during the month of June. The exhibit, which was created in 2010 to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Polish “Solidarity” movement, was a joint Polish and American project carried out under the auspices of the Consulate of the Polish Republic in New York. It portrays the history of Solidarność through maps, photos, press clippings and a narrative that also makes connections with the history of the American labor movement.
