  • All about Open: OER, Open Access, & Library Databases (Wednesday, Oct. 4, 3:05 pm, Jillian Maynard) A look at how the process of creating and sharing information is changing in academia and what it means for you.
  • Seeking the Truth: It’s More than Face Value (Wednesday, Oct. 11, 3:05 pm, Susan Slaga-Metivier) How to evaluate online information beyond using a checklist shown through examples incorporating lateral reading.
  • “Trust Me”: Evaluating Claims in News & Political Speech (Wednesday, Oct. 25, 3:05 pm, Brian Matzke) How to evaluate claims in popular news media, political speeches, and advertisements.
  • Pain Relief: Using Zotero to Create Citations & Bibliographies (Wednesday, Nov. 1, 3:05 pm, Ann Crawford) Set up and use this free tool for tracking research sources and creating properly-formatted citations and bibliographies.
  • Becoming Privacy Literate (Wednesday, Nov. 15, 3:05 pm, Joy Hansen) A discussion about how private information is stored, used, and distributed and ways we all can do more to safeguard it.
  • Who Wrote That? Equity & Diversity in Scholarly Publishing (Wednesday, Nov. 29 *(rescheduled from 11/8), 3:05 pm, Susan Slaga-Metivier) A review of the scholarly publishing ecosystem and how it affects minoritized scholars, including tips on generating more inclusive searches.

Welcome (& Welcome Back) to the Library – Fall 2023

Welcome (or welcome back) to CCSU from the Elihu Burritt Library! If you’re new to the library, you might want to review the guide we designed for First Year students or our New to the Library? brochure.

Fall hours are: Monday-Thursday 8am-10:45pm; Friday 8am-4:45pm; Saturday 9am-3:45pm; Sunday 2-9:45pm. We are closed for the Labor Day holiday (9/2-9/4) & the Thanksgiving break (11/23-11/26).

A list of library services and changes to those services for the 2023-24 academic year are highlighted at https://libguides.ccsu.edu/2023-24. (Note: Stack 1 will be closed throughout the construction project. Staff will be happy to retrieve materials from this section at your request.)

The staff at the Elihu Burritt Library are here to support you in any way that we can, answering questions, helping you find books, and offering great places to study, in groups or individually. We even have dedicated quiet spaces on the 4th floor and Stack 7 for those times you really need to focus!

Be resourceful (& save money)

We can help you access course and research materials at no cost to you.

  • course textbooks for free in-library use through reserves (request from our staff at the 1st floor desk, they’ll want your professor’s name and course number).
  • some readings are digitized and will be available online through course reserves via CentralSearch (you may need your Bluenet ID to login)
  • we offer subscription databases that allow you to get access to high-quality scholarly journals and primary resources, avoiding paywalls by authenticating with your Bluenet ID.
  • get materials from other libraries with the help of our interlibrary loan department.

Librarians are here to help you with your research assignments.

  • service desks on the first and second floors are staffed during the library’s open hours.
  • research librarians are also available by phone, text, or through our online help (“Ask a Librarian“) application.
  • consult with a librarian to get in-depth help on your research projects through “Book a Librarian.”

Library bookdrop unavailable July 31-August 11

As part of the ongoing Library Annex construction project, the library’s bookdrop will be inaccessible from July 31st to August 11th.

During this period, please return your books to the library’s circulation desk during our open hours.

  • Monday, July 31st-Thursday, August 3rd: 8am-5:45pm
  • Friday, August 4th: 8am-4:45pm
  • Saturday, August 5th: 9am-3:45pm
  • Monday, August 7th-Friday, August 11th: 8am-4:45pm
  • Saturday, August 12th: CLOSED
  • Sundays, July 30 & August 6th: CLOSED

Polish Military Exhibit Opening – June 24th at 1pm, Special Collections

“A Millennium of Polish Military History” – an exhibit researched and created by John R. Biskupski – will be on display at the Elihu Burritt Library through August 4th.

The exhibit opening will take place on Saturday, June 24th, from 1-3pm in the library’s Special Collections (second floor). Please join us!

This exhibit is presented by CCSU’s Polish Studies Program & is supported by the Dr. Michael A. Peszke Memorial Fund.

Summer Session Hours, Juneteenth Holiday & Closed Stacks Information

The library is open for its summer session hours which follow:

  • Mon-Thurs: 8am-5:45pm
  • Fri: 8am-4:45pm
  • Sat: 9am-3:45pm
  • Sun: CLOSED

The library will also be closed for the following holidays:

  • Monday, June 19th – Juneteenth Holiday
  • Saturday, July 1st
  • Tuesday, July 4th – Independence Day Holiday

NOTE: Due to ongoing construction this summer, library staff will retrieve materials from the Stacks for you – the Stacks will be closed (5/30/23)

Pre-Summer & Summer Session Hours

With Spring 2023’s semester behind us and Summer Session 1 not yet begun (starts on Tuesday, May 30th) the library will be open for reduced hours from May 15th through 29th:
