Now on Display! Veterans History Project

The Center for Public Policy and Social Research, in conjunction with the Elihu Burritt Library, is pleased to announce the launch of the Veterans History Project Digital Archive (http://content.library.ccsu.edu/cdm4/browse.php?CISOROOT=%2FVHP). The archive will make available oral history interviews conducted by CCSU students and volunteers with veterans of U.S. armed conflicts, as well as many of the items donated to the project for digitization and preservation.

In order to promote the digital archive as a repository of valuable primary source material for faculty and student research, the library has mounted an exhibit of memorabilia owned by the men and women interviewed for the project associated with their military service. The exhibit will be on display from October 1 – November 15, 2008 on the library’s main level.

Bee-ware!

For the safety of all library visitors, we ask that you avoid STACKS 7 & 8 (bound periodicals) while we deal with the bees who have taken up residence in the library. We hope to have the problem resolved within the next week. If you need bound periodicals, please consult with our Reference staff at the 3rd and 4th floor Information Desks.

The New Face of Interlibrary Loan!

Today, September 2, 2008, the process of requesting materials through the  Interlibrary Loan office has changed.

How will this affect you?  The first time you request a book not in the CSU system or an article from any other library, you will be prompted to create an account in ILLiad, our new management software.

This account will allow you to:
•       Keep track of all of your data, so you will not have to rekey this information every time you place a request.
•       Quickly change your email if needed
•       View your electronic documents
•       Track the status of your requests
•       Request renewals.

When placing any subsequent requests the only thing you will need to do is log into your account.
We hope you enjoy this new innovation to help you manage your research requests.

Video Being Filmed at Burritt Library on 8/25

Hello Everyone!

I’m very excited to announce that CCSU Media Center will be filming a video to help students find their way around the Burritt Library. ( It will have a ghost/horror type theme). The filming will take place on Monday, August 25 from 12:00 pm – 4:45 pm.  Please be advised that some areas in the library may be closed off for short periods of time. Some patron computers may not be available, and lights may be turned off from time to time.  Also if you happen to be using the library that day and need to be near the filming, please keep the noise down. I’m sorry– I don’t mean to be one of those librarians that says “ssshhh”, but in this case it’s needed.  If you have any questions, please contact me, Susan Slaga at 832-2095 or slagas@ccsu.edu.  Thank you in advance.

Library Hours for August

If you’re like me, then you’re in utter disbelief that August is already upon us! The hubbub of summer sessions has subsided as we simultaneously gear up for the fall! This current state of being is reflected in our reduced hours of operation during the month of August. We’ll be open to the public weekdays from 8am – 5pm.  Come visit us, and enjoy the rest of summer!
