Stolen Laptop Procedure

Sad isn’t it that we need to worry about this. But we do….

The next time a student reports a laptop is stolen, this is what you should do:

1) The student needs to file the report with their local police. They will need from us the printout of the laptop in question, from Millennium which will have the make and model of the machine, the serial number, the CCSU Asset tag and the replacement cost which is $625 and that the laptop is property of the State of CT.

2) If you can convince them to call the CCSU Police too, that would be good.

3) BUT if you don’t see them do this while at the desk, follow up and call the CCSU Police immediately and explain what happened. They can put the information into the database for pawn shops etc where if it is pawned, we might get it back.

4) Email Norm and I about it. Norm needs to know since he will coordinate with the IT Department.

Remote access your computer at the Circulation Desk

Wow!  Thank you to Sarah who showed Alberto and I how to do this:

Pick your favorite computer at the desk.

From the Start Menu go to ALL PROGRAMS – Accessories – Remote Access – Click Other user.  you will need your computer’s name: LIB-123456.

When you log in, it looks just like your desktop! The one caveat is that when you get back to your desk, you will need to log in again.

Lost Blue Chip Cards-New Procedure

When a lost Blue Chip card is given to us, this is the procedure that the Card Office would like us to follow:

  • Send a student with the lost card over to the Card Office immediately. IF this is not possible call the Card Office and let them know that we have it and will send it over when we can. If the Card Office is not open, leave them a voice mail message at: 2-2140.  This way they will know where the card is if the student goes there to have their card replaced.
  • Call the student and let them know that we found the card and where it will be.
  • Nights and weekends the cards can be turned into the Police Department. Call the Card Office and leave a message telling them  where the card is.

How to restore missing folders

Restoring Missing folders on M or S drive

1) Go to My Computer
2) Choose the correct drive (for example, S)
3) On the left hand side of screen, under “File and Folder Tasks”, choose ‘view previous versions’.
4) Starting with the top version, click ‘VIEW’.
5) Keep doing this until you find the most recent version that contains the folder(s) you are missing.
6) The quickest way to restore the missing folder(s) is to copy and paste them on the drive they disappeared from.

Wi-Fi help for students and guests

From Norm:

Wireless “Guest Access” is only available through the Voyager option and only for the same email address for a 24-hour period (cumulative, not consecutive).  This was a puzzler,

since sometimes I’d see it and other times it wouldn’t be there.

If students need help with their laptops (wireless access, hardware or software issues), they can visit the Walk-In Support Center, in Barrows Residence Hall, Room 005.

No appointment necessary. Currently, their schedule is Monday-Thursday, 9 to 4.  Their schedule may change during the Summer session.

A similar Walk-In Support Center  is available for staff, but only for campus-owned equipment and applications.  This “Face-to-Face” support is available in

Henry Barnard, Room 020.  No appointment necessary.   Below is their home page.  From there, you can click on the link  IT Walk-In Support Policy to get more details about

the help they offer.

Circulation overdues for ILL

I have decide not to continue the practice of keeping track of the ILL overdue notices from Circulation, since I have access to ILLiad and it is still easy enough to check the files.

Circulation will still give ILL the RECALL notices, so that the materials can be recalled when one of our patrons need the materials. And we only need to do white slips for ILL materials if the item is over 90 days overdue and billed, just so ILL can double-check that we pull all the paperwork.

Welcome to Burritt Library’s Access Services Department

The purpose of this site is to make the most commonly used information, policies and procedures available to all in the department.  The blog roll on the right has links to the most used websites needed, from a direct link to Consuls, to a link to all departmental pages on the website, to the ILL Office Blog.

At the top left, we are working on a wiki of Circulation policies and Procedures.  If you would like we could also put Reserve Room and ILL materials up there in their own separate pages.  Let me know what you think.
