When the patron wants a Circulation Return Receipt

We just had a faculty member who sent a student to return a book on the faculty member’s account.  He wanted a return receipt.

To do this:

  • LOOK up the PATRON.
  • Click on the RETURNS tab in the patron’s record.
  • Check in the item.
  • Click the SEND RETURN RECEIPT link.

They locked their phone in the 4th floor charging locker~!

The charging locker on the 4th floor has six cubicles that can be locked so that patrons may securely charge their devices.  On occasion, the combinations fail and we will need to intervene to open the locker.  The bold text section in the Charging Locker Policy describes the process.

  • Any item requiring staff assistance to reclaim will necessitate a proof of ownership test conducted by a full- or part-time employee only (AAUP, A&R, AFSCME). You must show your ID and have the PIN to access the device, as well as sign a receipt for receiving the device.

Please do not forget to have the patron fill out the form first, before letting them have the device.  Leave the form for the Access Services Librarian.

RENEWING CONSORTIA materials in ALMA

Finally:  We can renew our patron’s Consortia loans from within ALMA!

  • Look up the patron.
  • Select the Network Activity Tab, locate the material that needs to be renewed and find the barcode for each item.  **Make note of which library the item came from.
  • Go back to the Loans Tab.
  • Check the material out again.  Be sure to select the correct owning library.

It is actually exceptionally easy, all things considered.

Repairing Items (Updated July 2018)

Our work around process for repair items from March 2018 turned out to not work well, so we are reverting back to the original process.

To put an item into repair status:

  • Search by Physical Item
  • Go to the ellipse at the right: … (More Actions)  Select Work Order
  • Change Process Type to ‘being repaired.’
  • Enter note if needed.
  • Click on Submit. Item is now in repair status.
  • Put it on wooden book truck near staff restroom for ISAR.

Take an item out of repair status:

  • Search by Physical Item.
  • Click EDIT ITEM box.
  • In General Information Box: Change ‘Being Repaired’ to BLANK, click SAVE.
  • Repeat the Physical Item search. The permanent location should appear.

Graffiti in the library

Just a reminder that we need to call the campus PD if we discover graffiti in the library.  We currently have had several instances on Stack 4 that have been occurring over the past weeks.  The PD will have to come investigate before it can be cleaned up.

Please just email myself and Theresa to keep us in the loop.

CSCU Consortium Packaging

After many years we are changing the way we package materials moving around the Consortium on the DAS Courier.

Going forward, we are going to just rubber band materials together  for a specific library, then add a label.  If the pile is too large, then use one of the large plastic bags.   Use the plastic bags only for the Universities.

We have a stash now of 30 plastic bags, courtesy of ECSU.  When the pile dwindles, let me know.  There are no plans whatever right now to purchase more bags.

TRICK for OPENING/CLOSING Front Handicapped door

I know that we have all had this issue with the handicapped door.

The trick is to do the opposite sequence of what you are attempting to do.
For instance, you are trying to open it.

  • If it won’t open, do the CLOSING sequence first.
  • Then do the OPEN sequence.
  • Another trick, wait for a bit and do the above sequence again.
